The Yurts

Glamping at its best.

If you are looking for comfortable Glamping in a spectacular setting you’ve come to the right place. Our two Yurts are located at 9700 feet on a private ranch in the middle of the San Juan National Forest of SW Colorado. We operate off-the-gird with our own solar energy, wells, etc. yet we have most of the comforts of a nice apartment…in an aspen forest.

The Yurts have a queen bed and a futon couch, a dresser, end tables, oriental rugs, and a wood heating stove.  The bathhouse has two walk-in showers, a double vanity, and two toilet stalls. A guest remarked that Bathhouse had the cleanest bathrooms she had ever seen. The views are spectacular. You can see La Plata’s snow-covered peaks, nearby Mesa Verde butte, and deep into southern Utah. At night the sky is blanketed with stars.

A typical review was:

“This place is amazing! If you’re looking for a quiet, beautiful place to stay and relax this is definitely it. Everything was super clean and the hosts were super accommodating. We will definitely be back!”

The Yurt Layout

The Yurts are 24 feet in diameter with 450 feet of living space – like a small New York studio apartment. The floors are laminate wood and sides canvas with a clear 4 ft diameter dome at the top of the roof. The Yurts have electric lights and a four electric outlets.

The is a Queen bed with linens and blankets for your use. The Yurt also has a fold-down futon couch, a chest of drawers, several end tables, a dressing mirror, and canvas deck chairs.

There is a modern, two-sided Bathhouse adjacent to your Yurt with a double vanity, two walk-in showers, and two toilet stalls. You have exclusive use of your half of the Bathhouse. Towels and wash clothes will be provided for your use.

There is a BBQ grill on the Yurt platform and camping cooler in the Yurt.

Guest access

You have exclusive access to your Yurt and to your side of the Bathhouse. The upper half of our 160 acre ranch is available for your use. The lower half may have elk or cattle depending on the month you visit.  The entrance gate is normally closed to ensure your privacy. Our two Yurts are in the woods about 100 yards apart.

Other things to note

There are NO food appliances in the Yurts, BUT THERE ARE GRILLS ON THE YURT PLATFORMS FOR YOUR USE. You will need to bring your own food and cooking utensils.

The Yurts have electrical outlets, ribbon lights encircling the inside, and table lamps. The Yurts are located inside the Double R Ranch, which is adjacent to Jersey Jim Lookout Tower outside of Mancos, Colorado. The ranch is an “in-holding” within the San Juan National Forest. We have three bears, a coyote pack and, recently, a mountain lion that all claim the ranch as part of their territory. As a result, we absolutely can not allow you to bring pets as we want to protect our wildlife and also protect your pet from the predators in the area.

Log Cabin

You won’t find as unique a location as our ranch. We are an “in-holding” in the San Juan National Forest., i.e. we are 160 acres surrounded by the 2 million acre National Forest. The “Bunkhouse” is a three bedroom, two full bath house with a full working kitchen, a pot-bellied stove for heat in the cold months, and a large common area with a dining table for eight. Nicely appointed, you would NEVER expect that we were even there buried among the spectacular scenery.

The space

The bunkhouse is at 9400 feet elevation so breathe deeply when you’re here. We are located near the top of a Colorado mountain adjacent to Jersey Jim Lookout Tower. Our nearest neighbor is ten (10) miles away. During the summer we often have a large elk herd in residence. If you like the outdoors you’ll LOVE our location. It can’t be beat.

Other things to note

There is a period piece potbellied stove in the house that throws off a lot of heat. It supplements the radiant heat in the basement floor. It is more than adequate to keep the Bunkhouse feeling snug and comfortable.
